Our Story
About the Museum
Mongui Maduro Museum is located in Landhuis Rooi Catootje, a typical Curaçao plantation house from 1735. The museum, filled with beautiful Curaçao antique furniture and artifacts, tells the story of four generations of the Levy Maduro family, connected to the social, cultural and economic history of Curaçao and the Caribbean region. And it all begins in 1853 when S.E.L. Maduro buys Landhuis Rooi Catootje as a gift for his young wife, Rebecca Curiel. Adjacent to the museum, research centre Mongui Maduro Library maintains a unique collection (books, newspaper clippings, postcards, photographs, music etc.) on Jewish and Antillean subjects, dating back to the 17th century.
